1.5 hrs Supporting Neurodivergent Adolescents and Youth – An Occupational Therapy Approach
This professional training package is designed for occupational therapists and other allied health professionals seeking to enhance their knowledge, confidence, and clinical reasoning when working with adolescents and young adults with neurodivergent profiles, including Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD), ADHD, and other related neurotypes.
The program explores the unique sensory, cognitive, emotional, and social needs of neurodivergent youth, and how these influence participation in meaningful occupations across home, school, and community settings. Participants will learn evidence-informed, neuro-affirming strategies that align with best-practice OT principles.
A strong focus is placed on building authentic rapport through respectful, strengths-based, and trauma-informed approaches. Therapists will also learn to implement interest-based and “outside-the-box” interventions that harness intrinsic motivation, creativity, and flexibility to achieve functional goals and meaningful engagement.
By the end of the training, occupational therapists will be equipped with practical tools and adaptable strategies to deliver person-centred, empowering, and effective therapy for neurodivergent adolescents and youth.
